Top health test screenings for the New Year

If you've made a healthy lifestyle part of your New Year's resolutions we've got some tips to get you started.
Lots of people put off going to the doctor just for their check-up.  But it's important to be screened as a way to early diagnose and maybe even prevent health problems.
Dr. Raul Seballoss has some tips on the top health test screenings to get for the New Year:
1. Screening for diabetes - 24 million Americans have diabetes.  That's 8 percent of the entire US population and 6 million of those people don't even know it.
2. Screening for high cholesterol
3. Screening for Vitamin D - We don't get enough sun and food source for Vitamin D. Low levels are associated with osteoporosis, breast cancer, colon cancer and perhaps heart disease.
4. Screening for other cardiovascular markers - Myeloperoxidase (MPO) is an enzyme in the body.  High levels can be associated with heart attack and stroke.
Those who should get screened:
  • older than 65
  • obese
  • dark skin
  • sun exposure
  • unexplained bone or muscle pain
